Folk communication and new scopes of local development.

The book presents 14 texts by young researchers affiliated both with UFPB and with the Graduate Program in Rural Extension and Local Development at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco. This program has been a major breeding ground for Folkcommunication researchers, first through the work of Roberto Benjamin — Severino Lucena’s master’s advisor — as well as through important Folkcommunication scholars such as Osvaldo Trigueiro, Luiz Custódio da Silva, Betania Maciel, and Irenilda Lima, and later through the courses taught by Betania Maciel and, more recently, by Severino himself.

The book also has the merit of bringing together texts by the “newest generation of researchers” in the field, to use Marques de Melo’s expression. These scholars have demonstrated considerable competence in presenting papers at various conferences in which Folkcommunication is present, such as Intercom, ALAIC, Ibercom, Confibercom, Lusocom, and, naturally, Folkcom.

New and old objects of study coexist in the work, which draws on contemporary expressions of Folkcommunication studies, such as Folk-activism, coined by Trigueiro, and Lucena’s Folkmarketing, in addition to its focus on the field of Local Development, a hallmark of UFRPE’s POSMEX.
