The author innovates and advances Beltrão's theories by introducing "media activists," positioning them as cognitive "intermediaries" between the producers of high and mass culture and the consumers of popular culture. In the first part, the publication presents concepts and a survey of the various mediation processes of media activists in São José de Espinharas. The second part includes essays with different themes and objects, as well as specific approaches and methodologies. Trigueiro demonstrates the confluence between the theories of Jesús Martín Barbero, on the theory of mediations, and Luiz Beltrão, on the theory of intermediations. He works with Muniz Sodré for the conception of Communication; and with Gramsci, for the understanding of hegemony.
