Theoretical and Methodological Links of Folkcommunication

This book seeks to identify the possible theoretical and methodological links present in Luiz Beltrão’s thesis, entitled *Folkcommunication: A Study of Popular Agents and Media for the Information of Facts and the Expression of Ideas*.

To this end, the research analyzed the possible connections between Beltrão’s work and functionalism, CIESPAL, and Edison Carneiro’s guidelines for folklore research. In the book, we present the context in which Luiz Beltrão’s thesis was produced, examine the fundamental characteristics of functionalism, carry out a documentary review of the creation of CIESPAL and of the contents addressed by the Center in the 1960s, and, finally, analyze Edison Carneiro’s theoretical production on popular culture, especially *The Dynamics of Folklore*.
