The Fandango Caiçara in Perspective
The author Rodrigo Fonseca (Cataia) investigates how popular traditions are expressed and circulated in contemporary society. Taking the *Fandango Caiçara* as his point of departure — a cultural manifestation that brings together music, dance, religiosity, and ways of life from the Brazilian coast — the author analyzes its communicational processes based on ethnographic research.
Grounded in the theories of Jesús Martín-Barbero, Néstor García Canclini, and Luiz Beltrão, the book presents *Fandango* as a living system of communication, capable of resisting, adapting, and producing meanings amid social and media transformations.
The work also proposes an innovative perspective by developing a diagram of mediations, revealing how culture, identity, and communication intertwine in popular practices.
